How 3D-CRT Works

Before 3D-CRT was developed, radiation beams were directed in simple, flat shapes (2D). With 3D-CRT, the radiation beams are shaped to match the exact profile of the tumor using custom metal blocks or collimator leaves. This allows the radiation oncologist to treat the tumor more effectively while reducing damage to nearby healthy tissues.
